The location: Marissa Cooper's house.

Q. What is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. A residential home.

Q. Where is it supposed to be on the show?

    A. Right next to (left of) the Cohen house in the Crystal Cove / Pelican Hill area of lower Newport Beach. The show uses frequent establishing (aerial) shots of those red-tiled homes in that development.

Q. When did we see it on the show?

    A. Beginning in Episode 1 (of season one), "The Pilot", and in most shows thereafter, it is seen as the house right next door to the Cohen house.

In the first season, before their divorce, Julie & Jimmy Cooper lived there, with their daughter Marissa. Ryan and Marissa meet (in the pilot episode) when they are both standing outside her house. After the divorce, Jimmy moved out, and Caleb Nichol bought the house "as an investment" to keep Julie from losing it. Eventually, Julie married Caleb and moved into a huge mansion (which Caleb bought her as a surprise gift).

Marissa's house is on the left in the photo below (the Cohen house is on the right).

Q. What is it actually in real life?

    A. A private home - but not in Newport.

Q. Where can I find it in real life?

    A. As you might expect, it is really is right next door to the real-life Cohen house, in Malibu. As you can see on the mailboxes in the photo to the right (from the show), the actual house numbers are 6201 & 6205.

The house seen as the Cooper home is located at 6201 Ocean Breeze Drive, in Malibu.

Here is a photo map link from Live Local (the Cohen house was still under construction in that photo).

[ Warning: this is a private home. Do not trespass on their property,
knock on their door, or do anything else that might disturb the residents.
    ]

(It is in a gated community, so don't waste your time trying to drive past.)

Q. How the heck did you figure out where it was?

    A. See my comments on the Cohen house. When I found the Cohen house, the Cooper house was right next door.
